Solar dock lights can light up your docks, patios, walkways, pathways, and driveways. They are easy to install and use small solar panels to convert sunlight into electrical energy. This energy is stored in batteries, which in turn power the light at night. Solar dock lights help ensure that your outdoor spaces are safe and secure for you and your family.
Not only are solar dock lights practical, but they are also environmentally friendly! By using solar power instead of electricity, you can help reduce your carbon footprint. Additionally, you won't have to do much to get these lights to work. Once you install them, you can just leave them in and let them do their jobs.
If you’re not sure what to look for in solar dock lights and which ones to choose, Engineer Warehouse editors are here to help you. We’ve tested out the top-rated options on the market to figure out which ones are the cream of the crop.
Our Criteria
There were a number of things that we kept in mind while we were evaluating these dock lights. With these criteria, we were able to compare and contrast how the different lights performed, which let us see which ones are the best. These were the criteria we used:
Brightness
It’s important that the light is bright enough to safely guide anyone walking along a dark path, patio, or dock. People should be able to clearly identify the path or area ahead of them, as well as any hazards or obstacles.
Battery life
Another consideration is how long the light will last on a full charge. Some solar dock lights only last for a few hours, while others can last overnight and well into the early morning. We looked for solar lights that can remain bright while it's still dark out.
Durability
We also wanted solar lights that were made of durable materials. These lights will be left outdoors, exposed to the elements, and will likely be driven over and walked on. Thus, they need to be able to take the weight without getting damaged.

With JACKYLED's Solar Dock Light 8-Pack, your days of stumbling around in the dark when you go out of your house at night are over. Light up your driveway, deck, pool area, and more. These solar-powered lights can make your home safer without cramping your style.
It's best to install these dock lights in areas where they can soak up direct sunlight for the entire day. Charging is automatic and you won't have to do anything to get the process started. Once night falls, the lights will come on and can stay on for up to 72 hours.
These dock lights are guaranteed to be worry-free, even if you install them in areas where cars and trucks can drive over them. Their casing is made of durable cast aluminum that can easily withstand up to 20 tons of weight. With the casing's IP68 waterproof rating, you won't have to worry about rain affecting the lights.
Additionally, the solar panels used in these lights are made of monocrystalline silicon. Monocrystalline silicon panels are made of the highest-quality silicon and take up very little space, which is why these lights can take up very little space without sacrificing efficient charging.
Perhaps the best part about these lights is how durable they are. You can leave them out in the cold, heat, wind, and rain and not have to worry at all about damage. Even in rough conditions, you'll notice that these lights will hardly display any signs of wear and tear.
The Good:
It didn't take long for us to install the lights, and installation was also easy and uncomplicated. The batteries charged as expected, and the lights worked well for us both during the day and at night. The solar panels charged reasonably quickly in direct sunlight, and the lights were still lit up when the sun was already rising, so it can reliably provide hours of lighting.
The Bad:
Given the customer reviews, you might end up with one light in the pack not working. All of the lights we got worked, but a lot of reviews have mentioned that at least one light has not worked right out of the box. These lights have a one-year warranty, so if this happens, you can contact the manufacturer to ask for a replacement.
The Ugly:
One thing that might be a dealbreaker is the fact that the batteries are sealed in, and it seems like it will be difficult to replace them. We think that it might be possible to do so, but you might end up breaking the waterproof casing if you try.

Working Time | 8 to 12 hours |

Give your home a more futuristic feel with Siedinlar Solar Deck Lights. With a sleek and modern casing design and blue light, these deck lights have a great balance of form and function. Because they're built to last, these lights are guaranteed to last for a long time to come.
Because these deck lights are solar-powered, it's important to make sure that you install them in places where they'll get direct sunlight for a significant period of the day. The lights need 6 to 8 hours of sunlight to charge, after which they'll be able to light up for 8 to 12 hours at night.
With a durable aluminum casing, you won't have to worry about damaging the lights. You can install them along your driveway or in areas with heavy foot traffic, and they still won't show any signs of damage. This is because the casing is built to be highly durable and can withstand up to 20 tons of weight.
Additionally, these lights don't need much maintenance. Simply ensure that the switch at the bottom of each light is on AUTO and that the batteries are securely connected to their terminals. You can then install the lights with two screws each. To ensure maximum illumination, periodically wipe down the lights with soap and warm water.
Unlike the typical deck lights, which usually come in shades of white, these come with blue light. Blue light is great if you want ambient lighting and a more modern look for your property. With their aesthetics and durable construction, these lights are definitely worth the purchase.
The Good:
While these weren't the brightest lights we tested, they gave off a soft white illumination that was both ornamental and functional. They provided enough light to let you see ahead of you and avoid any obstacles or hazards, but they weren't too bright and garish. The lights are also bright enough to be seen from a good distance, so you'll be able to identify your dock or driveway in the dark and from afar.
The Bad:
Like other dock lights, these ones come with screws so you'll be able to install them as soon as they arrive on your doorstep. However, the screws that came with this pack were low-quality, which we didn't expect. Luckily, we had spare screws lying around so we were able to test out the installation process right away. Still, if you end up getting these lights, you should buy good screws ahead of time.
The Ugly:
Compared to other lights on this list, these ones don't last as long. We charged them alongside another set of lights, but the other set lasted longer. These ones will still stay on for hours, but don't be surprised to see them get a lot dimmer around the time dawn breaks. At least by then, there will already be some light from the sun.

Includes | JIGUOOR 6-Pack Solar Deck Lights (Yellow) |
Shape | Rectangular |
Dimensions (L x W) | 4.2” x 3.8” |
LED Color | Yellow |
Working Time | Up to 12 hours |
Weight Resistance | Up to 10 tons |
Battery | 1.2V/800mAh Ni-MH |
Casing Material | Aluminum |
Waterproof Rating | IP68 |
Do you want to ensure that crucial areas on your property are well-lit without deck lights showing up too much on the landscaping? The JIGUOOR Solar Deck Lights are made to provide you with the illumination you need while blending seamlessly with the background.
Though these lights are on the small side and are unobtrusive, they can pack quite a punch. You can leave the lights to charge in direct sunlight for the entire day, and they'll come on at night and provide up to 12 hours of illumination. Each piece comes with a LED light on each end, producing a soft yellow light.
The lights come with an aluminum casing that has two screw holes. With a casing like this, these lights are definitely tough to crack. You can install them along your driveway and drive over them day in and day out, and they're going to stay intact. You can also install them on the deck of your boat or on the dock without ever having to worry about how the water might damage the lights.
The casing for these lights can only withstand up to 10 tons of weight, while the casing for other lights on this list can withstand up to 20 tons. However, 10 tons is likely to be enough. That's the weight of a small passenger plane or a light military tank. If you're not expecting those things to roll through your property any time soon, the casing should be able to withstand the weight of the typical cars and vans.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about these lights is that they can stay illuminated for the entire night and even into the early morning hours. Don't be surprised if you look out into your yard or toward your dock at 5 am and see that the lights are still as bright as ever.
The Good:
One of the things we liked best about these lights is that they come in different colors. You can choose red or green lights, which is different from the usual white, yellow, or blue dock lights. They also might be some of the more durable solar dock lights we've seen. The housing is solid, and the internal components seem to have been sealed in well.
The Bad:
Because of the availability of green and red lights, we went ahead and ordered one set per light color. The white, blue, yellow, and green lights worked well, with the green being especially bright and striking. However, the red lights were a bit disappointing and were dimmer than the others. If you'd like to use red lights, we'd recommend combining them with another color.
The Ugly:
It seems that some of the lights are more prone to condensation than others. It's something that you'll have to keep an eye on, as condensation can damage the lights. If this happens and some of the lights stop working before the warranty is up, make sure that you contact the manufacturer for replacements.

Maybe you live in an area where the sun is out for a shorter period, and you're struggling to find solar lights that don't need a long charging time. If that's the case, the JACKYLED Solar Dock Lights are worth looking into. Not only do they charge quickly, but they also emit a bright and highly visible light.
While other similar solar lights take 6 to 12 hours to charge, these lights take only 4 hours. With just 4 hours of charging, these lights will be able to shine brightly throughout the night and well into the dawn. If the batteries are fully charged, the lights can remain illuminated for up to 72 hours.
Additionally, the casing of these lights is built to protect the lights and ensure their longevity. It's designed to keep dirt and debris from getting into the interior of the lights. This helps ensure that the lights will be able to remain in top condition even in harsh environments and inclement weather.
These solar power dock lights are a bit on the larger side and are outfitted with six LED beads each. Thus, they produce bright spots of light that can be easily visible from a distance. They're great for larger pathways and driveways, as well as structures such as docks. Because of the size of the lights, they can mark the presence of structures that need to be seen from a distance.
The warm white color of the lights also provides great ambient illumination that can complement your landscaping or the architecture of your house. These dock lights are reliable and can safely show you the way even in the darkest night.
The Good:
Some of our editors consider these lights their favorites. While they have some drawbacks, they're nonetheless sturdy and bright. They were a breeze to install, and you can turn them on at dusk and they'll still be bright enough by dawn. Additionally, they emit a soft yet bright light that's both beautiful and functional.
The Bad:
The power switch on these lights can be confusing. At first we thought that we had received damaged lights that didn't work, until we realized that we hadn't actually turned them on. You might find one or two pieces in your set that won't work, but make sure that you had turned them all on correctly before contacting the manufacturer for a replacement.
The Ugly:
While the lights themselves worked well enough for us, we thought that the brand's customer service left much to be desired. While the quality of a brand's customer service doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the product, bad customer service can mean that whatever solvable problem you have with the product will not be solved.

A lot goes into making sure that your home is a safe and comfortable place to live in, no matter what time of the day it is. With the APONUO Solar Dock Light Set, you'll be able to safely make your way around your property even without slipping or tripping in the dark.
Install these lights under direct sunlight and leave them to charge for 6 to 8 hours during the day. That should be enough for the lights to stay on for up to 10 hours, which means that they can illuminate various structures and pathways all night.
With their hexagonal shape, these lights provide all-around lighting. They have 6 LED beads each that produce a bright and highly visible ring of light around the casing. Because these lights are so visible, they'll be able to safely guide you down the right pathways and lead you away from hazards.
The lights are also a bit on the bigger side, as far as dock lights are concerned. However, they aren't obtrusive and you might not even notice that they're there until the lights come on.
Lights like these are typically installed along driveways, walkways, steps, decks, patios, docks, and more. These lights are quite versatile and can be used in different ways, as long as you make sure that they are installed under direct sunlight. As long as you ensure that the lights can charge their batteries, they'll work according to your purposes.
The solar panels in these lights are made of polycrystalline silicon. This type of solar panel has high power density, so they pack more power in a smaller package.
The Good:
One of the best things about these lights is that they turn on and off automatically. You won't have to fiddle around with power switches; simply install the lights and leave them to do their work. The lights we bought automatically charged during the day, then came on once nighttime fell. They also remained bright enough until the early hours of the morning.
The Bad:
This set has the same problem as many others: at least one piece might not work at all, or might end up broken after just a couple of months of use. Fortunately, all the pieces in the pack we ordered worked, though it hasn't been a couple of months yet since these lights arrived. However, a noticeable number of the other people who have bought this pack have complained of one or two pieces being damaged.
The Ugly:
These lights also seem to last for a shorter time compared to others. They'll still provide you with enough light so you'll be able to move around safely. However, even when charged the whole day under full sun, they don't seem to be able to last past dawn the way that other solar dock lights can.
Includes | APONUO 8-Pack Solar Driveway Lights (Cool White), 8 screw sets, and a user manual |
Shape | Rectangular |
Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4.17” x 3.7” x 0.9” |
LED Color | Bright White |
Solar Panel | Monocrystalline silicon |
Lighting Area | 875 yards |
Charging Time | 4 hours |
Working Time | Up to 72 hours |
Battery | 1.2V/ 600MAH AAA NI-MH |
Casing Material | Die-cast aluminum |
Waterproof Rating | IP67 |
The APONUO Solar Driveway Lights may be small, but they're heavyweights that can pack quite a punch. They're reliable, durable, and can take a lot of abuse without showing any signs of damage. If you need solar lights that can be installed and just do the job without any fuss, these are the lights for you.
Just pop these lights under the sun and wait for it to soak up just 4 hours of direct sunlight. In this relatively short amount of time, the batteries will be able to charge enough to power the lights throughout the night. In fact, one complete charge can enable the lights to stay on for up to 72 hours.
Once you hold these lights in your hand, you'll find that they're quite solid. This is because the casing is made of die-cast aluminum, which is a tough and durable material. Because of this casing, you can walk and even drive over these solar-powered dock lights without damaging any part.
Well-built and durable dock lights like these can be used anywhere. You can install them along the edges of your dock, or place them along your driveway to make coming home at night safer. Because the package already comes with screws for each light piece, all you'll need is a drill or screwdriver to install these lights.
These lights are practical, long-lasting, and won't let you down. You can expect to see the bright slivers of light coming from each piece even as the sun is coming out. This means that the lights can reliably stay on for the whole night and well into the early morning the next day.
The Good:
The housing of these lights seemed very durable and reliable. Installation was very easy for us, though we had to use our own screws. Additionally, they were among the brightest lights we had tested. They were able to clearly illuminate any area they're in, and they were visible from a significant distance. The color of the lights was also beautiful to look at, making them both ornamental and functional.
The Bad:
While we generally liked how these lights worked for us, we did have an issue with the switch on the underside of the lights. They're not intuitive to use and can be confusing. We eventually figured out that we had to long-press the switches to ensure that the lights will turn on automatically at night.
The Ugly:
We expected these lights to come with screws, but unfortunately the set that we received did not. The other lights that we ordered came with screws, even though some weren't very good. While it's not much of a problem, it can be inconvenient especially if you don't have the right-sized screws lying around.

Height | 0.86” |
LED Color | Warm White |
Solar Panel | Monocrystalline Silicon |
Charging Time | 8 hours |
Working Time | Up to 72 hours |

Battery | 1.2V/800mAh AA high temperature- resistant battery |

With their hexagonal shape, the VOLISUN Solar Lights combine both form and function. They look decorative, but they're undeniably useful and reliable. They're built to last and are made of high-quality materials that ensure the longevity of the lights.
These lights are best if you live in an area with lots of sunlight because they'll need up to 8 hours of charging. Once the lights are fully charged, they can provide lighting for up to 72 hours. This is a handy mechanism for cloudy or rainy days because the lights will still have leftover energy even if they weren't able to charge much during days with little sunlight.
The lights also have a durable aluminum casing that won't rust, bend, or crack. This is likely the best kind of material for dock lights like these because they need to be able to withstand exposure to the elements. With a casing like this, these lights will be able to last for a long time without sustaining damage.
Because these solar power dock lights are so durable and well-made, you can put them pretty much anywhere you need them to be. They can be installed along your driveway and the pathways on your property. You also put them on the edges of your dock to keep people safe when they go out near the water at night. They can also be installed near soil because the casing can keep dirt out of the interior of the lights.
Each of the lights has 6 LED beads, thus forming a bright ring of light around the casing. From afar, you'll see sizable and highly visible spots of light that can guide you down driveways and pathways and away from pools or steep stairs.

The Good:
These lights were striking and bright, and they were able to easily illuminate any area they were in. We also liked how the color of the lights looked; it was warm and not harsh on the eyes, while still being bright enough. They also stayed on until the morning with a fully charged battery, though they'll only last a couple of hours past midnight.
The Bad:
However, installing these lights was a bit of a hassle for us because of the screws that came with them. The quality of the screws was bad, and they seemed to be like the type that would rust or break easily. Thus, if you choose these lights, we recommend that you use a different set of screws that are well-made and sturdy.
The Ugly:
It was a good thing that these lights worked just fine for us because otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to ask for replacements for them. We had a difficult time finding a way to contact the brand in any way. Thus, if you order this pack and one of the pieces doesn't work, you'll have to facilitate refunds or replacements through Amazon.

LED Color | Bright White |
Solar Panel | Monocrystalline silicon |
Lighting Area | Over 875 yards |

Though they're larger than other solar lights, the Happybuy Solar Driveway Lights have a clean and unobtrusive design that helps them blend into their surroundings. You'll hardly even notice that they're there, but they'll make sure that you can make your way around your property as safely as possible.
As with other solar lights, these lights are best installed in areas where they can get direct sunlight. Leave them out during the day to allow their batteries to charge, after which they'll be able to produce illumination for 12 to 15 hours. With that length of time, these lights will be able to stay on for the whole night.
Like some of the other solar lights on this list, these lights are powered by monocrystalline silicon solar panels. Because this type of solar panel is high quality, they can produce a significant amount of energy without taking up much space. The panels are also able to power six LED beads.
Because of the size of these lights, they're well-suited for driveways, docks, pool areas, patios, and more. You can also put them on wide exterior steps to reduce prevent people from tripping and falling at night.
These lights emit bright enough light that you'll be able to navigate back to your dock at night or safely cruise up a dark driveway. The lights give off highly visible spots of illumination that you can see from afar, ensuring that you'll be able to find your way home in no time.
The Good:
Because these lights were smaller than many of the others, we thought that they might not be as bright. However, we were surprised to find that they're actually just as bright as many of their bigger counterparts. They were able to light up quite a large area and were visible from a good distance away. They may be smaller, but they can save you a lot of space without sacrificing brightness.
The Bad:
Though we liked these lights for the most part, we didn't like that the batteries were sealed into the housing. We wouldn't be able to replace the batteries, and we'd probably damage the housing if we tried. If one of the lights stopped working, we wouldn't be able to try to fix it, and we'd probably have to as for a replacement.
The Ugly:
Another thing we noticed is that the housing might not be well-sealed against moisture. The lights didn't fog up when we tested them, but we weren't 100% confident that their housing would be able to keep moisture out. Thus, it may be best if you could apply sealant on the seams of these lights before you install them.
Includes | MEIKEE 4-Pack Solar Deck Lights (Bright White) |
Shape | Rectangular |
Dimensions (L x W) | 5.43” x 3.74” |
Number of LED Beads per Piece | 20 |
LED Color | Bright White |
Solar Panel | Monocrystalline silicon |
Charging Time | 6 to 9 hours |
Working Time | 12 to 14 hours |
Weight Resistance | 20 tons |
Battery | 3.7V 1200mah |
Waterproof Rating | IP67 |
Get reliable and trustworthy outdoor lighting from an experienced company that specializes in lighting fixtures. The MEIKEE Solar Deck Lights are built to withstand rough conditions and can be used in a variety of settings. You can use these lights to light up your property, but they can also work well in many other applications.
All you need is 6 to 8 hours of daylight to charge these lights. Once they're charged, they can come on and keep going for 12 to 14 hours. They are thus able to stay lit for the whole night, and even for some more time after the sun starts to rise. You can thus rest assured that you'll be able to safely navigate your property no matter what time it is.
What sets these solar lights apart from many other similar lights is that they don't just give off a soft and ambient illumination. They give off a strong and bright light, which is no surprise given that they're outfitted with 20 LED beads each. Each light emits a bright white glow from the sides as well as from the top.
You can use lights like these in a myriad of ways. The typical way to use them would be to install them along your driveway, along the edges of your dock, or around your pool. You don't even have to install them anywhere; you can keep them as they are and bring them with you when you go hiking or camping. These solar dock lights work reliably well as bright and portable light sources.
The Good:
We liked the design of these lights in particular because they emit light from all four sides. Others only have lights coming out of two opposite sides of the housing, which can leave some dark spots. However, these lights can illuminate a large area, and you'll be able to see clearly ahead when you walk or drive in the dark.
The Bad:
We had an issue with the power switch for these lights. For one thing, it's positioned on the bottom of the housing, so once the lights are installed, you'll have to take them out if you want to fiddle with the power switch.
The Ugly:
Like many other packs of solar dock lights, it seems that this one also has a problem with one or more of its lights not working or failing after use. Many customers report multiple pieces in the pack either not working outright, or failing to stay lit for longer than 4 hours. All the lights in the pack we received have worked so far, but this might be something you'd like to keep in mind.

FAQs
-
How long do solar dock lights last?
This depends on a few factors: the quality of the light fixtures themselves, how often they're used, and the weather conditions in your area. In general, though, you can expect solar dock lights to last for a year or two. This is especially true if the batteries cannot be replaced. Once the batteries are no longer usable, you'll have to replace the lights.
-
What color should dock lights be?
Solar dock lights are available in a variety of colors, such as white, yellow, green, red, and blue. Your choice of color can depend on what you'll be using the lights for. For example, you can put green and red lights on your dock so you know which side you should enter. Additionally, green and white lights have been found to be able to attract fish. You can also choose bright white lights to line your driveway so you'll know where to turn when you're driving home in the dead of night.
-
Can you leave solar lights out in the rain?
If they're well-made and have durable housing, leaving solar lights out in the rain will not damage them. You can also apply a sealant on the seams and crevices of the lights to keep moisture out. Just make sure that the lights you choose are meant for outdoor use. Solar dock lights in particular are meant to be left outdoors, so you can expect them to withstand exposure to the elements.

Why don't my solar lights stay on all night?
There could be a number of reasons why your solar lights aren't staying on all night. One possibility is that there is something blocking the panel from getting direct sunlight. If leaves or snow have piled up around the light, it won't be able to recharge throughout the night. Another possibility is that there is something wrong with the battery. Over time, batteries can lose their ability to hold a charge, which will cause your solar light to turn off sooner than expected.
If you're having trouble getting your solar lights to stay on all night, try cleaning off any debris around the panel and replacing the battery if necessary. However, if your area just hasn't been getting enough sunlight because of the weather, then you may just have to wait until it's sunny again for the lights to charge fully.
-
Do solar lights work on cloudy days?
Yes. However, because they won't be getting much direct sunlight, they likely won't be able to fully charge their batteries. Thus, if it's been cloudy all day, your solar lights might not last the whole night. They might only be able to stay on for a few hours, and they might not be able to produce as bright a light as they usually do.

- Finally, read reviews from other customers who have purchased similar products. This can give you an idea of what to expect from a particular product and help you make an informed decision about which solar dock light is right for you.
